Sprint Epic 4G Android 2.2 Froyo Update: Officially Live

The Samsung Epic 4G has been a really popular handset and was released at the end of August running on the Android 2.1 operating system. For those of you who’ve been waiting to officially update to Android 2.2, or Froyo as it was dubbed on the Epic 4G, there’s good news as it’s now become available.

The Froyo update on the Galaxy S range faced several delays and in recent weeks there were leaks of the almost-final build, according to Darren Murph over on Engadget. However Engadget now reports, sourced from xda-developers that Android 2.2 (actually 2.2.1) is now being pushed out by Sprint over its update servers.

The build codename appears to be DK28 and the Epic 4G is the first Galaxy S phone in the U.S. to receive the 2.2.1 update. To update from Android 2.1 to the latest firmware on your Sprint Epic 4G hit the link here to download with full instructions.

So frigging cool. Why I got the epic in the first place. Now has sound recorder, blue tooth control and other new gadgets along with a slight redesigned menus. Took 10 minutes to install. Slow on reboot but no issues other than having to retype in Google passwords. all data and messages remained intact. Even Google maps is more accurate.

Thanks for removing the frustration for the last 3 months.

Good chance it breaks GPS. Wait for a patch before updating, or update with caution.
