iPhone map-based Radio App: Patented by Apple

Here at OSM we like to keep our readers informed with all the latest news and speculation about devices such as the iPhone. Just lately our iPhone posts have included articles about improved battery life for the iPhone 4, more speculation of a Verizon iPhone 4 or 5 and news of the Android magazine app being banned from the App Store by Apple.

Now we have more news for you this time about an Apple patent that has been filed for a Radio App. If this goes ahead it would be a fantastic benefit for iPhone users that travel around as this app is map-based. The news comes to us from Mark Gurman over on 9to5 Mac, sourced from Patently Apple and in his article there are a couple of images that shed some light on the radio app.

One of the images shows the traditional set-up for a radio app, while another shows the new app which exhibits a map-based approach featuring nearby radio towers. Different radio strengths are shown in a similar way to the signal strength display on Apple devices, with half circles above the individual radio towers.

Let’s just hope that this is one Apple patent that eventually comes to fruition. For more on this go to 9to5mac.com. What do you think about the Apple radio app that has been patented? Is it is something you’d be enthusiastic about using? Let us know by sending us your comments please.
