CDMA Verizon iPhone release date: Analysts say February or March

Here at OSM we’ve been bringing you all the news and of course speculation about a Verizon iPhone and we know from response to our many previous articles, just how many of our readers are waiting for Apple and Verizon to finally get it together. The main consensus of opinions over recent months was that a Verizon iPhone may appear in January 2011 but to be honest much of it has been based on rumor and conjecture.

When Verizon recently announced that its next generation 4G LTE network will go live tomorrow, December 5, many people, including us, thought that it would be the perfect time for Apple to step in and make an announcement about a Verizon iPhone but alas, once again no such announcement was forthcoming.

Now we note that Matt Phillips over on The Wall Street Journal has been taking a look at the latest rumblings from analysts in the market and there are mentions of a CDMA Verizon-compatible iPhone coming in February or March 2011. For example on Thursday Russ Gardner of Citigroup reported build plans of 600,000 to 700,000 CDMA iPhones this month which he says “confirm the launch of this product in early CY11.

Meanwhile Andy Hargreaves of Pacific Crest yesterday suggested that Apple’s second quarter 2011 (March) would likely see the release of the CDMA iPhone at Verizon and goes on to forecast that Verizon will sell around 3 million iPhones in the second quarter. Over at Canaccord Genuity T. Michael Walkley anticipates the CDMA iPhone launch in the first quarter of 2011, most likely in February. Walkley added that the Android impetus which has been gathering is likely to slow down as strong Verizon iPhone sales are forecast.

So you see the expert analysis does indeed show that it’s very likely we’ll hear of the release of a Verizon iPhone soon. After all, a lot of people have waited an awful long time so another 2 or 3 months will soon pass now. For more on this go to wsj.com. What are your thoughts on the impending CDMA iPhone for Verizon? We’d like to hear what you think so please feel free to send us your comments.

I could see something like: announced in January, preorders taken in Feb., delivered in March. Verizon is going to have to do a lot of employee training to be ready for something this big, so you have to have a wait between the announcement and the orders, and there has to be a wait between the orders and the delivery.

I don't mind waiting, I just want it to happen! I can't upgrade to a new phone til next May anyway, so as long as it is out by then I'll be a happy camper!

nice post.. good supporting intel.. the more important issue is going to be the end user experience.. clearly apple has a hit product.. the iphone seems to have been retarded by wireless service.. that's what most will have you believe.. the facts are simple and easy to understand.. phone technology and user experience are directly tied to the ability and performance characteristics of the service provider.. the newer LTE,, and later LTE advanced,, will provide a level of service allowing more complex,, faster and productive mobile communication platforms.. the end user experience is key to the success of any product.. the current u.s. cdma mobile technology is limiting in it ability to provide a similar experience to the current u.s. gsmc technology.. this difference is not acceptable.. the experience must remain synonymous despite the service provider.. sans exclusivity agreement and subsidy,, the user experience is also top priority.. :)

Would it even be worth it to buy in March (assuming this is true)? Or would it be better to wait until the next gen is released (most likely over the summer)?

The sooner they do this the sooner they can start stealing droid customers.
