Google Social Networking: Codenamed – Emerald Sea

Now I know what you are all thinking, doesn’t Emerald Sea sound like a zone from Sonic the Hedgehog? Now if this social networking site from search engine giant Google offers a safer environment for users and perhaps an age restriction throughout the site to protect youths from seeing things they shouldn’t then I feel that this could really take off. This could be a competitor to Facebook. Google would want this to be as seamless as their search engine so would have to get it right first time.

So what do Google have to contend with? A recent study was done in the U.S and it showed that 25% of WebPages searched for Facebook pages, that’s 1 in 4. For someone to come up with something that can rival that, it will need to be innovative and different but also include the things that Facebook do in perhaps a better way.

According to techcrunch.com’s MG Siegler the codenames for things like this change all the time and will continue to change, apparently an earlier codename that was there which Google could go back to was Emerald City, that just makes me think of the Wizard of Oz…
