Verizon LTE launch news today: Will we hear of Verizon iPhone 4 /5 release?

It seems there’s big news on the way from Verizon which is holding a press conference today, December 1, to launch its next generation 4G service, 4G LTE (Long Term Evolution). It’s not clear yet when the service will be switched on but Verizon could surprise us later today or there are other rumors of December 5 as being the big day.

What we do know is that ads have been running to say LTE will be coming in December and we’ve previously posted that to start with 38 cities will be covered. Blake Robinson over on Mashable reports that its coverage will make it the largest 4G network in the U.S.

Although Sprint has committed to WIMAX for 4G, LTE has great potential to become a global standard and really it’s the consumer that will benefit as both of these advances offer vastly exceptional speed compared to what has previously been available. What many people want to know is whether this means a Verizon iPhone is now on the way, possibly the iPhone 5 and in a previous article we noted that experts feel that the LTE launch would be the perfect setting for an announcement from Apple.

Now if we see a guy with a black turtleneck sweater, jeans and sneakers enter the Verizon press conference, then we’ll start getting excited. For more on the Verizon LTE launch go to mashable.com. What news do you think will come at the press conference and do you think there could possibly be an iPhone version for Verizon announcement? We’d like to hear your thoughts so please feel free to send us your comments.
