Top searches from Yahoo for 2010: Shocked or not?

Here at OSM we do love a good infographic, a pictorial way of presenting facts and figures in a way that makes the information easier to digest. Recent posts with infographics include one that showed the evolution of e-mail and a chart on the PlayStation Move and how it has fared on the market.

The infographic we have for you today is rather interesting as it depicts the top Yahoo searches of 2010 and you may be surprised, or not, by the subjects featured. This story comes to us from Ben Parr over on Mashable and features an infographic created by JESS3. The top two searches for 2010 on Yahoo are BP and then the World Cup which replaces the top two last year of Michael Jackson and Twilight.

The 2010 search figures demonstrates that celebrities still command a lot of interest as there are 6 featured in the top ten searches including Miley Cyrus at Number 3, Kim Kardashian Number 4 and Lady Gaga Number 5. As far as mobile searches go it was the NFL that topped the chart followed by Lady Gaga. The infographic also shows searches split into subject areas such as natural disasters, financial searches and sports. Looking at natural disasters for example shows the Haiti earthquake at the top of the search list, followed by the Iceland volcano and then the Chile Earthquake.
