Reasons Acer’s Tablet Threatens iPad and Galaxy Tab

On Tuesday we found out that Acer is to launch three new tablet devices, two 10-inch versions and one 7-inch – so competition for both the Apple iPad and the Samsung Galaxy Tab. The other interesting thing is that Acer is to launch these in April – the same month that we were expecting the iPad 2.

It is for this reason why I think Apple will launch the iPad 2nd generation in January; so not only do they beat Acer to the market with their three tablets, but also RIM and the upcoming BlackBerry PlayBook. Don Reisinger from eWeek has been looking at why Acer is in a better position against Apple and Samsung than what we all think.

The first reason is the fact that Acer is now a big player in the PC market, and it is assumed that they could eventually become the world number one in that market. If this happens, then Reisinger cannot see a reason why they cannot do the same in the tablet market.

The other reason – one that I already picked up on was with the screen sizes. Acer has covered both options by offering the 7-inch and 10.1-inch display; Apple has said that they have no plans to develop a smaller form-factor iPad. However, we do know that Samsung is working on a larger Galaxy Tab for next year.

The other Ace up Acer’s sleeve – sorry – is that not only will these tablets run on Android, but one will also use Windows 7. Its as if Acer is targeting all the major players. Do you think Acer will be able to compete with the likes of Apple and Samsung in the tablet market? For more details of these tablets read Debbie Turner’s article from a few days ago.
