iOS 4.2: Unlock The Power of ‘Find My iPhone’

Apple iPhones are so popular that no doubt many people reading this will have one and have probably already downloaded the latest operating system, iOS 4.2 (4.2.1). There are so many features to discover on an iPhone though that you may not have found all the really useful ones yet but we recently told you about the ‘Find my iPhone’ service. Now we have more detail on this and how to set up the service.

This clever feature is now free to iPhone 4 owners who are using iOS 4.2, and once established if you mislay your device the Find my iPhone service can locate it and also lock or erase your iPhone as well as sending it messages, according to Bob Bhatnagar over on iphonefaq.org. At one time to set up the service you needed a MobileMe paid subscription with Apple but this is no longer needed.

Full step-by-step instructions for setting up the service on your iPhone 4 are on the article linked to above and then if you need to find your iPhone, you use the portal at me.com on your PC and after you’ve used your Apple ID to log in it will then show you the location of your iPhone on a map. Find my iPhone is also available as an app available from the App Store.

It’s certainly a useful service for those of us who often misplace our essential items and as the service is now free it’s worth setting up. For more on this go to iphonefaq.org. Have you already set up Find my iPhone and if so have you had to use it yet? We’d welcome your comments on this.

I just got a 4th gen Iphone for my birthday about a week ago. and of course parents like too take things away that their children just got. Thankfully I got this app before then and I was able to play a sound and find out where it was(my dads breifcase). would've been a different story if they knew how too turn off the phone. but thankfully they don't.
