Skype: Major milestone of 25 million concurrent users

We recently informed readers of the latest update 5.0 for Skype with its enhanced user interface and integration with Facebook Connect which we pointed out would make a lot of Skype users very happy. Now it seems the rise of Skype has hit new heights with news that it has reached a major milestone in users.

On Monday the company hit a record of 25 million concurrent users. Adam Ostrow over on Mashable compares this with the figures of Verizon Wireless customers to give us some perspective. Verizon is the largest mobile carrier in the U.S. and numbers just over 100 million customers. The comparison shows how well Skype has done in making its impact.

Recent improvements to video on Skype was also reflected in figures that show that 40% of Skype-to-Skype minutes in the first half of 2010, utilized video. New innovations including the Facebook integration and ever-growing extension on new mobile handsets have obviously paid off for the company and continued growth will surely follow.
