PlayStation Portable out PC’s in – What devices teenagers and adults want

Earlier today we posted an article about an ‘interest’ in buying’ survey questioning kids aged between 6 and 12 who were shown an array of gadgets and asked to choose which they were interested in. We noted that the iPad was at the top of the list while the lowly E-reader languished at the bottom.

We now want to bring you more on the same survey by the Nielsen company who also looked into a second age group, age 13 and above and asked them to choose the items from the same array of goods given to the younger kids, that they would be most interested in buying over the next six months, according to Sean Hollister over on Engadget, sourced from Nielsen Wire. Those surveyed were able to choose more than one item.

This may give you some idea of what the people you care about might like as a gift over the holiday season and top of the desire list was a computer, with 20% saying they were interested, followed by a TV with 19% and the same amount for a smartphone (not iPhone). The most favored item for kids (6 to 12), the iPad, was only the fourth favorite item for teens and overs and the iPhone was in eighth position. Bottom of the list for teens and overs was a PlayStation Portable.

For more on this and a look at all the devices concerned go to engadget.com. We’d like to hear your thoughts on this. Are you surprised that any particular items are so high, or low, on the list? We’d be interested to read your comments so feel free to send them to us.
