E-Readers out, iPads in – with kids aged 6 to 12

Have you been wondering what gadget gifts kids would really appreciate for the holiday season? If so a new survey might interest you of kids between the ages of 6 and 12 that were shown a plethora of gadgets on a list and asked to pick the ones they really wanted.

The ‘interest in buying’ survey from The Nielsen Company showed the Apple iPad coming top of the chart in items wanted by kids in that age group, according to Sean Hollister over on Engadget sourced from Nielsen Wire. Of all the items ticked off on the list offered to kids, 31% of children included an iPad as a choice.

However as Sean Hollister points out, only one tablet device was on offer so others may fare just as well. Also games consoles were represented separately on the list and if they’d been represented as a collective item may have topped the iPad. Other items on top after the iPad were PC’s, iPod Touch and Nintendo DS/DSi/DS Lite. Sadly the E-reader languished at the bottom of the chart with only 11% of kids interested in them.
