Amazing medical innovations: Improving healthcare with technology

We all know that technology is increasingly becoming more advanced with more innovations becoming available virtually every day it seems. One of the fields most affected by these improvements in technology has to be that of healthcare. Although these innovations are not something many of us come across on a day-to-day basis, they are making a huge impact on health and saving lives.

Now Amy-Mae Elliott over on Mashable has taken a look at just some of these innovative technologies and put together a series of videos showing 5 of the best. One of the technologies shown is the Intuitive Surgical da Vinci Surgical System which uses robotic arms to carry out procedures, operated by a surgeon at a console. This method of surgery is minimally invasive and even on open-heart surgery for example, sometimes only a 2cm incision is necessary.

Another technical medical advance is the Zoll LifeVest which can be used on heart patients under threat of sudden cardiac arrest who are unsuitable for invasive implant options. It can be described as a wearable defibrillator and users wearing the device have their hearts continually monitored. Not only can the Zoll LifeVest identify an arrest but it can then defibrillate the heart as necessary.
