Retailers Push Black Friday Deals on Facebook and Twitter

Many retailers are jumping on the social media bandwagon this year, by using popular social networking websites such as Facebook and Twitter to promote their upcoming Black Friday deals. Some are even posting deals that are exclusive to those who “follow” or “like” them on the web.

As reported by Arlene Satchell over at sun-sentinel.com, an example of this is the $500 gift card that is being given away by Sports Authority this coming Black Friday. The only way of getting a chance to win one of the 20 cards, is for shoppers to check in via Foursquare and tweet their check in through Twitter.

However, they must do this while shopping in store during certain times. Clay Cowen – Sports Authority’s vice president of e-commerce – said that it’s a way of engaging with their customers, as well as a way of reaching out to a younger, more mobile-savvy customer base.

Sears is another retailer who is using Facebook’s potential for their Black Friday sales this year. On the retailer’s Facebook page, they are promising to unlock some great deals to fans who “like” it. In the meantime, Staples have been sending out alerts of their Black Friday sales.

It’s not just about the offers either, as many retailers are using social networking sites to post up details of their holiday shopping hours. You can read more about this story via sun-sentinel.com. Have you found social media really handy for the upcoming Black Friday sales?
