IOS 4.2 Finally Unifies iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch

Following on from yesterday’s news, we can now celebrate the fact that all Apple devices be it, the iPhone, iPod Touch and of course the iPad will now benefit from iOS 4.2 updates. This puts them all on the same level running the same software. In the past particularly when we talk about the release of the iPhone 4, this was launched with the newly introduced iOS 4. It has coped with this until now and although it will benefit from the update, the iPad is set to gain more from this.

Since Apple first offered it’s iPad to us, it was running on the older style 3.2.2. The new iOS 4.2 will be usable on the iPhone 3G, 3GS and 4, iPad and iPod Touch but not the first generation. According to Michael at ComputerWorld, the update will not only give a faster service, but will benefit users with it’s drag and drop app to folder, threaded e-mail messages, tagging your favorite photos with faces and places, and third-party multitasking.

On checking e-mail messages, this has been made easier by the “e-mail in-box in the Mail app” which basically means you do not have to shift between different in-boxes when looking at your e-mail. The iPad’s larger screen compared to that of it’s neighbours, will now welcome the add on of brightness adjustment via the slider bar. Where as before, the switch on the side of the iPad was used to fix the screen from rotation, it’s role as now been changed to a mute button with the rotation function moved to the multitasking bar.

Can you see the benefits from all Apple touchscreen devices singing from the same hymn sheet? Let us know. To find out more log onto ComputerWorld.
