FarmVille no Longer Top Facebook App: ‘Phrases’ Now No. 1

Ever since Zynga’s real-time farm simulation game “FarmVille” appeared as an app on the social networking website Facebook back in June 2009, it has become the most popular application on Facebook. However, it appears that it’s now been knocked from its top spot, by an app called “Phrases.”

According to Eric Caoili over at gamasutra.com, the “FarmVille” game – which is also available as an app for Apple iPhones/iPads and Android – has been Facebook’s No. 1 application since August 2009. The app reached its peak earlier this year, with an impressive 84 million active monthly users.

Although that numbers appears to have been falling over the past few months, following changes that Facebook made to its notification system. It may still be the most popular social game, but “FarmVille” has now lost its top Facebook application crown to an app that’s known as “Phrases”

“Phrases” – developed by Takeoff Monkey – allows Facebook users to post images, sayings and quizzes from a number of pre-generated subjects on their newsfeed. However, it is unlikely to stay at the top for long, as the developer recently disabled the “Phrases” application for Facebook users in the U.S.

Have you used the “Phrases” app? If so, what do you think of it?
