iOS 4.2 Gets Free Find My iPhone / iPad

Earlier on today we finally brought the news that many Apple fans had been waiting for, confirmation of the much-anticipated release of the iOS 4.2 update. We’ve got more great news for you now, as it appears that Apple’s Find My iPhone/iPad service will now be free to use for those running iOS 4.2.

According to Slash Lane over at appleinsider.com, Apple made an announcement today (Monday, November 22nd), that the Find My iPhone (or iPad/iPod Touch) service will be built into the new OS update, allowing owners of Apple devices to use it for free without subscribing to MobileMe.

The “Find My iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch” functionality – which allows you to locate your lost Apple iOS devices – was previously only available to those who had subscribed to MobileMe. The service also required the use of a free application, which was available from the Apple App Store.

Although the “Find My” service will now be free to owners of devices running the iOS 4.2, which will be available to download today (see previous article on times), the remainder of the MobileMe service is still on a subscription only basis. You can read more via the appleinsider.com website.
