Foursquare Privacy Issues, Not Just Facebook

Previously we had reported to you that Facebook and Twitter failed a privacy risk report and we also brought you some tips for families who use the social networking sites which you can view here. Well it seems like it is not just Facebook in the firing line Foursquare has also been pulled into the same storm.

Foursquare is one of the fastest growing social networking sites that has been seen so far, so where has the problem arisen from? Well the obvious one is that if someone you know is not as straight laced as they may seem, when they see that you have checked in at the Maldives they will waste no time in getting to your house and robbing you blind. Guess what, you can say thanks to Facebook and Foursquare for that one!

It looks as though these sites are trying to take the steps to give a greater security level, surely this should have been thought of BEFORE the updates to their sites. So what can be done about this? Surely common sense should take over and urge you not to put an update on your location. To read more about this matter head over to SocialMediaExaminer.com where Peter Wylie has written an article on this.

What do you all think about this? Do you have any other potential solutions or are you too fixated on earning your Foursquare badges? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.

Most of the current social networking websites have extremely serious privacy concerns. No data that you post online today is safe at all. I have gotten tired of all these privacy issues and deleted my Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and Foursquare accounts. I am now hoping for a new social networking platform to release that is actually secure. I have heard MyCube and Diaspora are about to release and that they are offering high privacy control and security. I hope this is true
