Droid Smartphones For $0.01: Verizon’s Catch

There are some amazing deals to be had on cell phones at the moment and presently Amazon has been holding a sale on Droid handsets and selling 4 of them for only $0.01. The current sale ends this weekend and the handsets are the Motorola Droid X, HTC Droid Incredible, Motorola Droid 2 and Motorola Droid Pro.

Have you ever heard the saying though, ‘If it sounds too good to be true it probably is’? We wondered if these low prices involved any catches and an article by David Murphy over on PCMag gives us a helpful insight. The Amazon deals are being sponsored by Verizon and involve an activation fee credit of up to $35.

However users who want to take up this offer have to be a new customer to Verizon and take out a 2-year service agreement. If you don’t mind jumping ship from your present carrier though it still sounds a pretty good offer considering the price of a Droid Incredible is usually $600 on Amazon. Of course, though it would seem as if Verizon must be losing out, consumers will have to purchase one of its 6 pricing plans as well as a plan for data service.

Other phones are also on offer at Amazon right now and you only have till Monday to get one of these special offers but it should certainly boost sales of Androids right now in the push against the iPhone.
