Safeway and PepsiCo Turn to Foursquare to Save Them

Now, you might be wondering why Foursquare would be helping out companies like these, and before you ask, we don’t think they are trying to rival Facebook’s Places. Instead they are leaning towards customer loyalty.

Foursquare has around 5 million users and is growing fairly quickly and with this may grow even quicker. So how does it work? Well each customer will have a card called a TreatCard, these cards earn points for purchases and if they choose to opt in to the social media side of it they will automatically get extra points! Pretty cool.

I don’t think this will be the last time we see companies like these or bigger ones using this form of promotion, its clever, innovative and from what I can see the next big form of self advertisement since carrier bags and TV adverts.
