Apple iPad 2 To Include GSM-CDMA Radio?

There has been much speculation surrounding a next-generation iPad, will we definitely see one first and foremost, and when will we be expecting to see it? Tim here at OSM reported today that a release date could be in February 2011, but as of yet this is only rumor, and along with this, there has been an indication that possible suppliers with parts are gearing themselves up. So after digesting this, what can we make of today’s news stating that the iPad 2 will come with GSM and CDMA radios.

According to AppleInsider, by using Qualcomm multimode CDMA-GSM chips, this would enable Apple to run the iPad 2 on Verizon & AT&T carriers using the same wireless integration. Currently the tech giants have already been using this system with Verizon on the iPad, but the same cannot be said for the 3G version. Presently Verizon offer the Wi-Fi only device with MiFi 2200 Intelligent Mobile Hotspot whilst on the go.

An analyst from Wedge Partners “Brian Blair” has commented that the new iPad 2 will be thinner and include a front facing camera. He said, “The new iPad is thinner than the existing model and is essentially made from one piece of metal with no pins needed. We understand it requires a new type of manufacturing process as a result, similar to the company’s unibody approach seen in MacBooks.”
