Two Become One: Facebook & Twitter Discuss Working Together

News has come through today that two of the biggest names in social networking may be working together. Yes, we are only talking about Facebook and Twitter. At the recent Web 2.0 conference in San Francisco, reports have said the two giants came face to face and discussed how they could collaborate with one another. Evan Williams, Twitter’s founder indicated that the talks were not quite going to plan.

He said, “We’re talking to them often to see if there is a way to work together, but so far neither side has found out a way to do that.” He went on to say, “We’d like our users to tap into Facebook to make their Twitter experience better.” It was hoped that by the two forces joining, features to come out of their talk would be the accessibility for users to find friends on Facebook who also have a Twitter account. It seems at this stage, the idea has not gone any further, and we will have to wait to see if anything positive has come out of their recent meeting.

Tom Phillips at Metro also reported on news from yesterday, that Twitter are hoping with the help of Gnip, to now gain some revenue from data offered by the huge numbers of tweets posted every minute.

Can you see any benefits of the two working together? Have you got a preference on which one you use? Let us know. Head on over to Metro to find out more.
