NFC Android Phones: Next Generation and You?

Firstly, if you didn’t know NFC stands for Near Field Communication, this is one of the things that will be coming to the Android platform as communicated by Google CEO Eric Schmidt at the web summit. This is the next generation of phones so how will this effect you?

Basically Google’s Android mobile phones will make you able to make payments without contacting anyone. For this to work NFC will be included in the Gingerbread release and in future phones a chip will be built into the hardware.

The first question that sprung to my mind on this is how secure is it? I am one of those people that rarely buys anything online as I have always been a little worried by the security, that coupled with the fact that my partner’s card has been cloned from Internet payments previously. Well according to Schmidt this is going to be more secure than actually carrying your card on you due to the high levels of authentication by using an encrypted password which is protected in your phone.

This is just one of the features that JR Raphael of PCWorld has written about in their article, so head over and read the rest of it. Make sure you let us know your thoughts on this in the comments below.
