Google: Employees Get A Raise + Cash Holiday Bonus

If you are currently working for search engine Google, then you are in for a treat just in time for the holiday season. For the company has just awarded it’s employees not only a 10% salary increase but a $1,000 cash holiday bonus. Can’t be bad!

In a recent Fortune’s listing of which companies are the best to work for, Google was clearly one of these. According to Stan Schroeder at Mashable who reported on this, Google will pay the taxes for the cash bonus and give individual employees another raise matching their target bonus for the year. Eric Schmidt, CEO for Google has recently sent an internal memo saying, “We’ve heard from your feedback on Googlegeist and other surveys that salary is more important to you than any other component of pay (i.e., bonus and equity). To address that, we’re moving a portion of your bonus into your base salary, so now it’s income you can count on, every time you get your pay check. That’s also effective January 1st. You’ll be receiving an email shortly with further details about these changes to your compensation. And one last thing.. today we’re announcing that everyone will get a holiday cash bonus, too.”

In a company that currently has over 23,000 employees, this latest news is a fantastic way in motivating it’s staff and stopping them from being tempted into finding another job. In October, Google were found to have a pretty awesome earnings report, so it seems that while other businesses may be struggling with the current economic climate, Google are definitely doing something right.
