Twitter’s top 10 trends this week

We have a roundup of the week’s top 10 Twitter trends right here for you as usual. There is a mixed bag of topics this week with the likes of politics and sport being amongst the chart, which is courtesy of Mashable.

So to start things off this week at number 1 we have the US Election. Election day was on November 2nd in the United States. The Republicans took an advantage by picking up seats in the House of Representatives, Senate, and governorships. The Democrats as a result of this lost control of the House of Representatives, but managed to keep hold to the Senate.

A nice traditional number 2 this week is Halloween, which took place in countries over the world on the 31st October. Dressing up and trick or treated meant that masses of people took to the microblogging site to Tweet. Back to politics and the Brazilian ones are in 3rd place, with Dilma Rousseff being elected as the new president of Brazil on October 31st.

Soccer/Football is in at 4th place, with the main Tweets being about Everton defender Phil Neville, the Birthday of Diego Maradona and the return of legendary Brazil player Ronaldinho, for their game against rivals Argentina. Demi Lovato is in 5th place this week, because she deleted her Twitter account and has now gone to rehab to sort out her eating disorders and cutting problems.

6th place this week goes to the NBA, after Charlie Villanueva Tweeted that Kevin Garnett called him a cancer patient during yesterday’s Pistons/Celtics game. Nothing new at 7 this week as Justin Bieber announced that his new single “My Worlds Acoustic” will be released on November 26th. The Quantas A380 Incident is the 8th hottest trend this week as the plane was forced to land in Singapore on Thursday, because there was trailing smoke from a blackened engine.

In 9th place this week is the National Novel Writing Month, which has been abbreviated to “NaNoWriMo”. This trend is predicted to be popular for at least the next month. And finally at number 10 this week is Miss Venezuela. Vanessa Andrea Goncalves Gómez was this year’s winner of the Venezuelan beauty contest.
