Fans Of Facebook Pages: Why Consumers Do It

What is the point of liking something on Facebook? This is a question that I have often asked myself, and have only ever come up with the answer “So my friends can see”. I have always wondered if there was more to it.

I did wonder if they were being used in some kind of polls or something like that but Amy Porterfield of socialmediaexaminer has come to my rescue with an article detailing why consumers have fan pages and how marketers are keeping up the ever changing world of social media.

The article looks at various different reasons behind people “Liking” companies of Facebook. Here are some of the interesting facts surrounding the Facebook Like. 43% of the Facebook users surveyed said they Like, or are fans of, at least one brand on Facebook. 34% of Facebook users say they Like brands in order to stay informed about company activities. 33% say they Like brands to get updates on future products. Among Facebook users who Like at least one brand, only 17% say they’re more likely to buy after Liking that brand on Facebook.

Please head over and read the full article at socialmediaexaminer although I have some questions surrounding the findings, like what was the sample size for the research surrounding the like function? And what was the age group surrounding the like function?
