The law to learn the ways of Facebook and Twitter

Police in the UK and Wales are all going to be given lessons on how to use social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter, in order for them to spot criminal activity and combat cyber thieves.

Oddly enough Facebook and Twitter are hot spots to catch criminals and cheats who boast of their achievements on the sites. A short while ago the police caught, arrested and jailed a gang of thieves who were using people’s Facebook statuses as an indicator of whether they were away from home, before raiding their houses. Take a look at E Week Europe for more cases on social network using criminals.

It has been estimated that 3500 officers in the countries will receive the training as a part of the new scheme. So when the boss walks into the office and you are on Facebook or Tweeting, you now have a valid excuse. Previous cases have proved that social media can be a goldmine for clues and valuable sources. Lets hope this new effort by the police will help crackdown the number of criminals we unfortunately have.

Do you think this new type of social media training the police will get is a good idea? Or is it just a waste of time and money? We want to hear from you, so leave us your opinions in the comments.
