Mozilla Firefox 4 Release: 2011 Not 2010

In news today, Mozilla have announced that the release for Firefox 4 will now be delayed until early next year. Reasons have been put down to development issues of the free open source browser taking longer than first thought.

Despite taking away features such as Account Manager password function, Mozilla Firefox in September of this year, was said to be the second most popular used browser. The latest Firefox 4 is said to include improved JavaScript rendering, a cleaner UI, hardware acceleration and according to Pete Babb at InfoWorld a new tab management system.

It is difficult to get a full indication of what the problem areas are, some have said it may be down to bugs although Director of Firefox “Mike Beltzer” has commented by saying, “Completing this work is taking longer than initial estimates indicated as we track down regressions and sources of instability.” To give Firefox any chance of keeping that second placed ranking amongst browsers, it needs to produce something that is bug free and encounters no developmental issues, so perhaps waiting until next year is not so much of a bad thing.
