Windows 8 to launch in 2012 say Microsoft

We have some news for those of you who have been anticipating the release date for Microsoft’s Windows 8 OS for PCs. According to Mashable, Microsoft has announced on their dutch website via a blog post that Windows 8 is in the works; however it will not be ready for another 2 years.

The news broke as Microsoft were celebrating the 1st birthday of their last version, Windows 7 that was launched back in 2009. The company has said the Windows 8 may even come as early as the latter end of 2011. The new project will be designed to match and hopefully surpass that of Apple’s new Mac OS X Lion that was unveiled last week.

It is likely Microsoft will include an app store on their desktop, just like Apple has with their new Macs. An excellent sounding face recognition log in feature may also be included, also with faster boot up times. These new features really are crucial if Microsoft are to remain up to date and competitive in this fast changing market. A 3 year gap between operating systems is not un-heard of for the company as they had a 2 and a half year gap between Windows Vista and then 7.
