Watch any video on your iPhone using the VLC Media Player

Have you ever come across a video type that your media player just refuses to play? Video formats can be very confusing, especially to users who don’t know the difference between MP4 and WMV. This is where the VLC Media Player comes in, allowing users to play any video in any format with ease.

Stan Schroeder over on Mashable.com is reporting on the release of the new VLC Media Player application for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. I downloaded the application onto my iPod Touch, and found a video which was in the .mkv format, which doesn’t play in iTunes. The only downside of the application is that you have to connect your iOS device to iTunes, and copy the videos over in the Apps tab of your device. The VLC Media Player is available for free on the Apple app store.

The video runs well, and I had no problem watching the video once it had been synced with iTunes. This application is for those who deal with odd file types which iTunes does not support, and for that audience it will make an excellent addition to their app catalogue. Everybody else is better off sticking with the regular media player, which is easier to use.
