“Paranormal Activity 2” Breaks Ticket Sales Due To Viral Video Campaign

Paranormal Activity 2 is the follow up to last year’s “Paranormal Activity” from Paramount Pictures. The premiere which screened in America on Friday, saw record amounts of tickets being sold and consequently broke all R-rated records seeing an extraordinary $6 million taken in ticket sales. Could this be down to the heavy publicising beforehand including an awesome viral video campaign?

According to Elena at Softpedia, this years sequel definitely attracted its fans despite some sources saying otherwise. Compared to last years opening night, it has been more successful and can take the new record for midnight R-rated screenings. What we do know about the promotion of the film is that Paramount Pictures produced seven 30 second videos, giving a quick glimpse into what the sequel would offer us without giving too much away. Softpedia reported that as well as this, fans have been given the opportunity to download the first film free of charge by pre-ordering their tickets beforehand.

Considering the film’s budget was a mere $15,000, the viral video campaign plus word of mouth as definitely been the deciding factor. What you think? Will you be watching Paranormal Activity 2? Check out Softpedia for more information.
