Project Legacy: “Assassin’s Creed” Facebook Tie-in

Online social networking sites like Facebook, offer a huge audience for companies to expand their followers. French video game giants Ubisoft, is now using Facebook to extend “Assassins Creed” taking it to a new level.

“Project Legacy” is Ubisoft’s first “companion game,” designed to give users of the on-line social networking site the ability to allow gameplay achievements on Facebook, to coincide with the console version. According to AFP, Chris Early, Ubisoft’s digital publishing team head says, “It’s basically a back-and-forth mechanism for passing value between games that are complementary in the same universe,” he added “By tying the games together, we have people extending their experience.”

Once “Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood” is released November 16 on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, any achievements gained through “Project Legacy”, can then be sent to the players guild of assassins by the way of virtual money or experience points. By playing the Facebook game you will also be able to unlock special features for when the console version is released.

With online social networking steadily growing and the increase in on-line game play, it is more likely that we will see Facebook based games interacting in conjunction with console software. Do you think that connecting the two makes them more popular? Or do you save your gameplay for your console and your social networking just for keeping in touch with friends? Let us know.
