Twitter CEO Evan Williams announces he is standing aside

We have some breaking news for you now regarding the Twitter Co-founder Evan Williams who has announced that he is stepping down from his position in the company. The CEO made the shocking announcement on the official Twitter blog which you can see via Mashable.

Evan Williams has asked Twitter COO Dick Costolo to take up the role of the company’s new CEO after revealing that we will not be completely leaving the company; however he will be focusing purely on product strategy. Costolo will take over the reigns as the new CEO after previously being the co-founder and former CEO of Feedburner, which was then taken over by Google.

Now that Williams does not have to handle the stress and strain of being CEO he can get back to what he enjoys in the company which is product and product direction. Williams Co-founded the microblogging service back in 2006 with Biz Stone and Jack Dorsey. Since it has become a huge hit with users worldwide approaching 200 million, as well as being the company with the largest growth in the last year with 76% compared to Facebook’s 54%.
