Sharp To Release Two “iPad Style” Tablets

Japanese Electronics Company “Sharp” who are renowned for their design and manufacturing of products, are now set to release two new tablets onto the market by the month of December. Currently, Sharp offers LCD TV’s, mobile phones, microwave ovens, calculators and now to add to these, two tablets to be named “Galapagos”.

According to Stan Schroeder at Mashable, indications show that the tech company will be launching a 5.5-inch and 10.8-inch tablet, the larger of the two having a 1366 x 800 pixel resolution. Users will be able to get internet access through Wi-Fi connection, and both will be Android-based. Mashable reported that the tablets can be seen in red, silver and black. Along with this, Sharp have declared an electronic bookstore will be launching by the end of 2010 but only in Japan, holding some 30,000 books, which in time will extend in content.

With news of the two tablets, Sharp have stressed that the devices will just be “e-readers” and nothing more. Will this latest announcement be enough to fight off competition against the likes of the Apple iPad and Sony’s developments to release its own e-book service?
