Facebook: 200 million monthly gamers

Social networking giant Facebook has revealed that 40% of its userbase is dedicated to people taking part in social gaming. The numbers say that the site attracts roughly 200 million gamers every month. The 10 most popular games on the site all have over 12 million users each; “Farmville” is in top spot with “Texas HoldEm Poker” and “Mafia Wars” also making the list.

Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg announced the figures last night at a gaming event in Facebook’s California headquarters. TechCruch tells us that Mr. Zuckerberg said “While they’re in the top five things that people like, they’re also in the top five things that people hate”. A little complicated?

So obviously there is a massive difference in opinion amongst the Facebook community, which I can clearly understand as a user myself. I do not play the games however some of my friends do, and some of them use Facebook for just the games, which indicates how popular and addictive they can be. The social network boss also said that “Friend request spam is also down by 40%” on the site.
