Awareness! App: Filtering outside noise in

There’s always lots of news surrounding new apps in the mobile world and recently we’ve told readers about the new Napster iOS app and earlier today the new Tecca app, for those interested in the latest gadgets and devices. Now this latest news I’m about to share with you is about a new app that filters outside noise INTO your headphones which may sound odd at first but bear with me.

Awareness! The Headphone app is a new app for the iPhone and iPod Touch and its aims is to let you listen to music on your headphones but still hear important sounds from the outside world. If you’re wondering why you’d want to be interrupted with outside sounds then Vlad Savov over on Engadget, sourced from iTunes gives some good examples, such as the sound of heavy traffic bearing down on you or “mothers screaming because their babies are in peril.”

The clever app measures noise levels from the environment and establishes a threshold and then any noise level above that gets shot through your headphones at you. You can also pause the app or music or alter how loud a sound should be manually before it gets blasted at you. It’s available now for $4.99 for iPhone or iPod Touch.

The app will also appear soon for the iPad, Android, Symbian, Mac and PC. For more on this go to engadget.com. If you’re somebody who’s often welded to your headphones then Awareness! could be an invaluable app to you. What are your thoughts on this new app? We’re always interested to hear from you so please do send in your comments.
