Users of Facebook in Asia make it the fastest-growing region

We all know by now about the social network phenomenon that is Facebook, a site that is so successful they’ve even made a movie about it called imaginatively, “The Social Network.” Facebook presently has over 500 million users across the world and a particularly staggering statistic is that 54% of those users use the site every day.

Now we have news about the fastest-growing region for new Facebook users, which is in fact Asia, even though there are still access restrictions in China. The first Asian sales office for Facebook has just opened in Singapore and vice-president, Blake Chandlee, confirmed the growth of Facebook in the region, according to channelnewsasia.com.

Chandlee said, “At the regional level, if you look at the big four, what we call, theatres, you’ve got North America, you’ve got EMEA (Europe, the Middle East and Africa) you’ve got Asia, you’ve got Latin America. Asia is definitely the fastest-growing amongst those big theatres… Asia’s got some of the fastest-growing countries in it, certainly.” Chandlee then went on to single out India’s growth in Facebook users as “tremendous.”

Although a breakdown of the numbers were not provided for most countries or regions, Chandlee did say that Singapore now has 3 million Facebook users out of a population of 5 million adding, “Singapore has been a great market. We nearly have three million people in Singapore alone, which means having a huge percentage of the total population on Facebook. We see that across the region really, we’re pretty excited about it.”
