Facebook deny “Phone” reports

We brought you reports earlier today that Facebook were planning to release a phone to help compete against their big rivals, Apple and Google. However the giant social networking site has swiftly replied to these claims by saying they are not true.

Spokesperson Jaime Schopflin spoke to Mashable and said “The story, which originated in Techcrunch, is not accurate”. “Building phones is just not what we do”. This is very disappointing news for a great deal of tech fans including myself. Maybe we were all just taken in by a crazy rumor.

But if you look on the bright side, this could just be a move by Facebook to hush the story down. Behind closed doors they “could” be working on a phone but dont want the attention on them. It would be unwise for them to show their hand now, so by denying the possible leaked claims would put their competitors minds at rest which is what they want just before officially announcing it.

If the idea of a “Facebook Phone” interests you then follow the link to our earlier article on the possibility of one, before Facebook released this statement.

I am not getting my hopes up but you just never know nowadays with secrecy and anonymity in the tech market when it comes to new products. What do you think about this story? Leave us your thoughts in the comments.
