Twitter: The weeks top 10 trends

Here we have a round up of the week’s 10 hottest topics on everyone’s favorite micro blogging site Twitter, courtesy of Mashable. This week we have a few odd topics and others that have been in the news all week long, sports and celebrities dominate this week’s chart.

So the number 1 trend this week is the MTV VMAs, which saw bizarre pop queen Lady GaGa pick up the best video award for her hit Bad Romance. Famous for her strange and elaborate costumes, this year’s clothes consisted of raw meat; even GaGa’s shoes and handbag were made of fresh looking beef steaks, gross! Rock band 30 seconds to Mars also scooped the 2010 MTV VMA Best Rock Video for Kings and Queens.

At number 2 this week is the NFL with the main talk being about Ray Lewis of the Baltimore Ravens, New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees, and the serious injury that Indianapolis Colts safety Bob Sanders sustained. In at 3 is the Taylor Swift/ Kanye West controversy from last year, where Mr. West interrupted Miss Swift’s acceptance speech by jumping up on stage and saying the award should have gone to Beyonce as her video was “The best ever…ever!”

Our number 4 this week is the 9/11 remembrance, as last Saturday was the 9th anniversary and many people Tweeted this topic to commemorate the people that tragically lost their lives that day. Oddly in 5th position this week we have “The PowerPuff Girls”, due to fans of the cartoon Tweeting about their favorite episodes and memories. In 6th is the Mexico Bicentennial.

Quite amusingly Twitter is your 7th top trend this week as they announced they would introduce a fresh new design with embedded media and content in users’ streams. Search engine Google takes 8th place after Doodling the sites logo to celebrate what would have been the birthday of crime novelist Agatha Christie. Football/soccer is the 9th top trend of the week after the Uefa Champions league kicked off last Tuesday with clubs all over Europe competing for the top prize.

And finally making the number 10 spot and completing our chart is Brazilian music band Restart, who have become popular with teenage fans this week; they typically wear gaudy clothes and show off strange haircuts.
