MTV after undergoing changes has now taken the top spot in relation to viewing music-related content. This in turn has knocked You Tube’s “Vevo” from the top. Pretty successful considering a month ago saw Universal Music Group and Vevo take their music video content away from MTV due to disagreements regarding licensing.
When Jolie O’Dell at Mashable reported on this, comScore analysed numbers of visitors to both sites. The results concluded that MTV had some 53 million different visitors last month, while Vevo only enjoyed 49 million. MySpace Music fell just behind this with figures in the region of 26 million in the month of August. MTV’s success can only be explained because they offer its music fans several ways to interact with artists as well as the accessibility of discovering new artists. Unlike Vevo that solely concentrates on streaming music videos.
At this stage it is difficult to digest comScore’s results as the two sites offer different experiences to its fans. Where as Vevo offers just music videos, MTV offers all kinds of content, so is it fair for us to take this information on board.
