SCVNGR Sees 100,000 Downloads In Just 48 Hours

Facebook, one of the biggest online social networking sites launched its new Facebook “Places” just a few weeks ago and for its smaller competitors, there was slight trepidation as to where they would fair against giants Facebook. But it does seem, that for SCVNGR in particular, the worrying may be about to stop.

According to Jennifer Van Grove at Mashable, the Google-backed site is now proving to be a contender against Facebook Places. It appears that news from CEO and Founder of SCVNGR has commented that the app has received more than 100,000 downloads this morning from iOS and Android devices. This impressive figure could be down to the fantastic reward system and partnerships that appeal to its users, but on the other hand it could be down to the new and upcoming Facebook Places.

CEO for SCVNGR “Seth Priebatsch”, went on to say that “they have managed to break into the top 50 (iTunes) and progression has kept on going and going”. This has been due to the popularity of Facebook and has helped them rise in the iTunes App Store charts.

So for now, we can congratulate SCVNGR on this pretty impressive figure when compared to the likes of say “Foursquare”, who are adding some 18,000 new users per day.
