Ping: Over a million users but doesn’t escape criticism

Many of you will have been following all the news from the Apple media event last week when new products and developments were announced by CEO Steve Jobs. One of the most talked about since has been the iTunes 10 download incorporating new music social network Ping.

It seems that Ping has really taken off with Ben Parr over on Mashable reporting that in its first 2 days alone users exceeded one million. Apparently users have enjoyed the newest social networking where they can follow updates from friends and their favorite artists. Ping also includes concert listings, a news feed and song charts.

However it hasn’t escaped criticism altogether with media reviews lukewarm and many people noting the proliferation of scamming and spamming going on and others noting the limited availability of Ping in different countries. The figures speak for themselves though and Apple has confirmed that the iTunes social network has been joined by a third of people who have downloaded iTunes 10.

It remains to be seen though if once the initial novelty has worn off people will stick with Bing and not drift back to their familiar social networks. For more on this go to mashable.com. Have you joined Ping? If you have what do you think of it and if you haven’t what’s stopping you? We’d be interested to hear your comments on this so please send them in.
