The moment that many Apple fans had been waiting for finally arrived last night – the September 1st Apple event. The event was used to unveil the company’s new products, which of course included the new iPod Touch, and their new social network that’s called Ping.
As reported over at belfasttelegraph.co.uk, Apple’s CEO Steve Jobs announced that the company has added the new social networking function to its iTunes software. “This is a social network all about music,” Jobs said about the instant Twitter and Facebook rival.
Jobs – who was speaking from a San Francisco press launch – explained about the new Ping service, by saying: “It’s Facebook meets Twitter meets iTunes.” With the Ping social network, iTunes users will be able to follow their friends, or even follow their favorite artists.
The event was also used to introduce a new version of its Apple TV box, which is dramatically smaller (and cheaper) than the previous version. The box – which is due to hit the stores in about a month – will allow users to rent TV shows and movies over the Internet.
