Universities on Facebook Page: Connect and communicate

It’s that time of year again, when millions of students head back to the classroom and there’s news today that Facebook has built a Page full of resources and useful information for students, both starting and returning, to college and university.

The use of social media for university and college students is already proven and more and more establishments are reaching out to students through the use of sites such as Facebook and Twitter. Now Facebook, in conjunction with Context Optional has set up the Universities on Facebook Page, according to Jolie O’Dell over on Mashable. It can be used for publicizing events and distributing users’ own content along with communicating with the wider campus.

There are also big brands offering discounts, price cuts and special packages to students. At present there are different sections for student government, community, school sports and others but Facebook intern, Arielle Aryah notes that although it’s good that administrators are involved, “we have noticed the need for more content created by students.” It was also stressed how much Universities on Facebook could help with creating a community spirit.
