Both social media and social gaming have come a long way in a short amount of time, and is one of the best ways for social networks to earn revenue from a service that they often provide to their users for free. New statics show that it is not just the young and geeks who use social gaming – the older female audience now makes up a majority of users.
Jolie O’Dell from Mashable has been studying some market research conducted by the NPD Group, and shows that almost 60 million American’s have played online social games once or more. You have to be impressed by that, considering that this new way of gaming is still in its infancy.

We have always assumed that online gaming was always something that geeks played in their rooms, but as social gaming has a more fun element instead of serious – this has to be the main reason why it has been gaining a wider audience.
One other thing that we thought we would point out for you, 35 percent of social media gamers have never played a video game before – this is true of my wife who has recently found a passion for Farmville. Have you taken up online social gaming yet? If so what is your game of choice?
