Ron Paul Mosque Ground Zero: Twitter reactions

There has been a great deal of controversy across the U.S. about the planned Islamic cultural center and mosque that could be built close to the site of Ground Zero, the site of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. Opinion has been very split over the issue with President Barack Obama backing the plans and others such as Sarah Palin, very much opposed.

Now it seems the issue has even divided father and son, Ron and Rand Paul, as Ron Paul, the former Republican presidential candidate, has opposed many Republicans with his support for the project. Ron Paul points out that many conservative defenders of property rights and the right to own property are opposed to the scheme even though that stance is at odds with support for the 1st Amendment rights of assembly and religion.

Ron Paul said, “Instead, we hear lip service given to the property rights position while demanding that the need to be ‘sensitive’ requires an all-out assault on the building of a mosque, several blocks from ‘ground zero,” according to Brian Montopoli over on CBS News.

Ron Paul’s son Rand, Kentucky Republican Senate nominee, meanwhile feels the cultural center and mosque should not be built saying, “The Muslim community would better serve the healing process by making a donation to the memorial fund for the victims of September 11th.” The debate and Ron Paul’s position over the mosque near Ground Zero is also provoking a lot of reaction on Twitter and if you hit the link you can see some of the feedback.

I have been with Ron Paul since his presidential bid began. The idea that Rand Paul has is National Socialism at it's core. Too many Americans have been conditioned to think in this social conscience way. I am glad to have a man like Ron Paul in these times.
