Recent news has been announced that Google the largest search engine on the internet has acquired “Like.com”, an open letter was posted on Like.com’s website. Google which was founded in 1998 does not only offer over one million servers in data centers all around the world but sees at least 1 billion search requests. Google’s services include Gmail email system, Orkut, apps for the web browser such as Google Chrome, Picasa and Google Talk Instant Messaging.

So the recent takeover of Like.com, will add to the ever increasing user numbers and services offered by Google. Like.com, which was launched in 2006 is a fantastic visual search and price comparison engine. When Ben Parr at Mashable reported on this, past challenges that Google have had to contend with, was the launch of “Similar Images”, a tool for users to filter image results that were similar to what they wanted. So for now, the new purchase fits in with just what Google are trying to achieve.
