New Facebook Scam Surfaces: Justin Bieber Fans Targeted
Social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook are always getting hit with some sort of scam, no matter how hard they try and stop them. However, the new scam to have hit Facebook recently appears to have specifically targeted Justin Bieber fans.
According to Lauren Indvik at mashable.com, a new scam seems to be spreading across people’s Facebook status updates, which offers free Justin Bieber tickets. The message reads: “WOW! Justin Bieber Is Giving Away Free Concert Tickets Now!”

This is then followed by a bit.ly link, which takes people to a rogue Facebook application that – if people install it – posts the same message on the user’s Facebook status. If people then continue with the application, they are prompted to enter their mobile phone numbers.
Security firm Sophos says that the application will then ask people to check an agreement, to enter a contest for a chance to win £50,000. This is a scam however and by entering the contest, people are tricked into subscribing to a £4.50 a week premium rate service.
