Dell Thunder Prototype Like Droid 2: Video Preview

The guys over at Engadget have recently received two Dell Thunder prototypes to have a look at. They are very early examples that are labeled EVT1 for “engineering verification test”, so when the handsets are finally released some differences can be expected.

Sean Hollister of Engadget is reporting that both handsets came without the rear cover, but the Thunder still looks stylish. The handset reminds him of the original iPhone with its chrome curved sides, and its glass screen. On the bottom of the Thunder a micro USB port is found for charging, and a pair of tinny but loud speakers. While at the top a full-size 3.5mm headphone jack can be found.

A rear facing 8-megapixel camera, with 4x digital zoom and a single LED flash can also be found. It was discovered that the screen on the prototypes were awful, as the LCD panel distorted with off-angle views. It is expected however that the Thunder will be getting an OLED panel when launched. One unit was running Android 2.1 while the other had Android 1.6.

One of the handsets identifies as AWS, which suggests that T-Mobile could be getting the handset when launched. The testers liked what they have seen so far with the prototypes and thought it had some similarities with the Droid 2, and you can see for yourself with the video below.
