New Facebook Scam: “Get the official DISLIKE button now”

Facebook, one of the biggest online social networking sites is now having to deal with yet another scam, the “DISLIKE” button. This latest scam is unfortunately taking advantage of a non-existent Facebook feature that appeals to many users.

For those of you who have a Facebook account, there is no such “dislike button” available. According to Stan Schroeder at Mashable, this may be a feature that Facebook will in time decide to add to its site but for now users need to be aware of this scam. If a status update containing the message “I just got the Dislike button, so now I can dislike all of your dumb posts lol”! or even “Get the official DISLIKE button now” followed by a link, is a way of obtaining your personal information.

If a user followed this link and gave permission for the app to run, they would find themselves being asked to complete a survey and being directed to an existing Firefox add-on called Facemod. As with all advice surrounding privacy issues, personal information should not be given away, and if an item pops up that sounds suspicious then do not click onto it.
