The Dell Streak is finally here! The phone/tablet device is now available on the market so users can buy one from the store, and spend the next few weeks trying to figure out for themselves whether they bought a big phone or a small tablet.
Matthew Shaer over on the Christian Science monitor has a rundown of reviews of the device. Dell has said that their 5-inch device “is ideal for experiencing thousands of Android Market widgets, games and applications, all without squinting or compromising portability.”
Reviewers have praised the 19GB storage and the Snapdragon processor, but they found the screen to lack detail compared to the screen of the smaller iPhone 4. They also found that a few Android apps didn’t fill up the screen, instead they just used a portion of the overall screen space.
Matt Warman and Hunter Skipworth in their article for the UK Telegraph wrote that “”Web pages load quickly and the touch screen is very responsive making browsing straightforward and easy. It may lack some of the [user interface] niceties of the iPad but as a bare bones internet viewing device it works brilliantly,”.
Overall the Streak was recommended as a niche product. Those who fall into that niche will love the Streak and will find themselves using a device with plenty of promise and with an excellent web browser. It’s not for everybody, but the Streak is a pretty good device.
